We were joined by Angela Voulgari, Equally Safe Edinburgh Committee Lead Officer. Angela presented on Equally Safe and Mental Health: the impacts of gender inequality and gender-based violence.
Equally Safe is Scotland’s strategy to eradicate violence against women and girls. This violence is not only physical-it starts from our understanding and reproduction of gender roles and norms within society and our cultural understanding of what it means to be male or female at any given point in time. This presentation will examine gender, patriarchal structures and the forms of violence and abuse they give rise to, and the impact of those on the mental health of those primarily affected: women and girls.
Those in attendance then had the opportunity to ask any questions and to contribute to the discussion.
